Bathroom basin with space on top

Image
There are a plethora of bathroom basins on the market. Most are designed either for aesthetics or price. There are some that are designed to be functional and this one is one of them.

If you have a super large bathroom space should not be a problem. Even free standing bathroom basins that are placed at least 50 cm apart on a double vanity provides ample packing space.

The lack of packing space on a bathroom basin is a problem in small bathrooms with single vanities. If you installed an under mounted unit you have maximised space on top but you sacrifice space under the vanity. It is all a compromise.

The Essence counter top basin is one of those basins that provides some space on top and is suitable for a small bathroom. Ideally it should be placed on a wall mounted vanity.

Another big hidden advantage is it is made from Fireclay which is much stronger than normal ceramic.  It is less prone to cracking and chipping so it is ideal for using when renting out an apartment.

The best way to save on electricity bills - Most people don't know about

Image
Heat pumps save water heating costs The biggest proportion of your monthly electricity bills go towards heating water and your stove.  In terms of total cost not much can be done to the running cost of your stove. Even if you switch to gas you are still paying a lot.  However, heating up water has alternatives.  Solar panels are not always the solution but they do help to reduce energy bills, the problem is if you have a lot of people in the house you might run out of hot water very quickly on a cloudy day.

Heat pumps use heat from the environment to heat up the water.  Just like solar panels use sunlight energy. The only electricity used is to pump the water through the system and run the fan for the heat exchanger. So there are no tanks or elements like those used in geysers.

How does a heat pump actually work The fan of the heat pump circulates air through the outer evaporator that acts as a heat collector. The liquid refrigerant in the evaporator absorbs the available heat in the…

Mosaics - the alternative to glass splashbacks in your kithcen

Image
The most popular material used for splashbacks are mosaics. They are easy to install and there are so many to choose from.  Maybe that is why so many people, from architects, interior designers, builders and DIY love them, you can create features that are unique.  There are most likely about 5000 different mosaics available on the market, and that excludes combinations and permutations of mixes. What is great about mosaics is that you can actually do it yourself, it is not that hard and there is space for mistakes which you can rectify, not like solid glass splashbacks.  If you make a measuring error with a toughened piece of glass, that is it, you have to cut and temper and paint a new one. A mosaic splashback can also be created as a mural from a picture, some murals are pieces of artwork and are installed in living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Actually, you can install them anywhere you like, even in your pool. The materials range from: crystal glass (not toughened …

That does not mean you can use your fantastic images for a splashback.
